Chaparral Photography Stars

Congratulations to Chaparral High School Photography students who recently won top awards in The Louis J. Hendrickson Memorial Photo Contest at the College of Southern Nevada, Cheyenne Campus. Danny Neang took first place in the Nature category and Derrick Jackson took second place in the Altered Image category. Their instructor, Ashley Stroud, pointed out what a great honor it was for them to win, especially with so many other competing entries from CCSD and CSN.

Chaparral Government Stars

Chaparral Empowerment High School participated in the Nevada Mock Trial Regional Competition on January 22, 2011, at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas. Jasmine Pimental, Milinda Davis, MiLynda Walters, Olglidia Orozco, Brittany Banks, Jeneice Morgan, and Luis Gomez did an outstanding job of representing Chaparral Empowerment High School at this competition. Jasmine, Milinda, MiLynda, and Olga appeared as attorneys, while Brittany, Jeneice, and Luis played witnesses.

Miranda Barry placed first in the region/district in Constitutional Oratory and will represent Chaparral at the state competition in this event on February 12, 2011. A huge thanks to instructor, Ms. Robin Klein for preparing these students for this competition.

Update: Congratulations to Miranda Barry for taking second place in the State of Nevada Oratory Competition. This is the first year Chaparral has participated in these mock trial competitions.

Chaparral Band Stars

Congratulations to Band Director Paul Buening, and Justin Dean, Andrew Legleiter, Jason Vazquez, and Trevor Stojanovich who successfully auditioned and were selected for the Clark County School District Honor Band.

Monkeying Around with Tony Cooper

Chaparral Art Instructor, Tony Cooper, is a part of the driving force behind The Monkey Gym, a new not-for-profit organization that brings art, gymnastics, wrestling, tumbling and cheerleading to children who otherwise would most likely never have the opportunity to discover hidden talents in these areas. Student Council Stars

On behalf of National Association of Student Councils, we want to congratulate you and your student council again on being recognized as a 2011 National Gold Council of Excellence.  To further honor of your achievement, please accept the attached National Gold Council of Excellence seal.

NASC represents middle level and high school councils nationwide. It seeks to provide a valuable leadership partnership between students and their school. It creates the opportunity for students to become effective leaders, thus encouraging and influencing a positive school climate.
